"Oxfordshire-born, Leicester-based artist, multi-instrumentalist and producer Adam Weikert announces his incredible new album To Whom Ourselves We Owe, one tapping into the rich tapestry of Britain’s contemporary folk revival but with striking innovation and historical detail.
Born out of his journey through folk as social prescription, Weikert had begun attending folk gigs, sessions, and more leading him on a journey of in-depth folk discovery as he explored English history, folk music, folklore, art, and himself. To Whom Ourselves We Owe re-imagines and re-interprets - from original songs inspired by folk stories through to Morris dance tunes and folk classics – in a collection of songs that question what it truly means to be British, often through the lens of migrants, himself, the present day, and the working classes.
To Whom Ourselves We Owe also features acclaimed folk musician Roger Wilson (on fiddle) who has played with Mercury Prize nominee Martin Carthy, and Chris Conway (tin whistle), and the incredible Nicole Robson on Cello, alongside an array of traditional instrumentation, from the mainstream to the very unique, including a practice chanter, broken Sheng, an accordion purchased from Nick Hart, banjo, ukelele, hammered dulcimer, music box, Morris bells, and a musical saw - blended with an innovative sound of synths, MPE controllers, and various field recordings Adam has made - from bird song through to the sound of cable cars rising above the Heights of Abraham."
I would like extend my heartfelt love and thanks to:
My Brothers, my Father, my Mother, Arts Council England, Mary Holder, Miss Manchester Meansmore, Katrina Awramenko, Ben Barlow, Alice Beadle, Miriam Bean, Martha Bean, Jenny Collard, Chris Conway, David Firth, Hannah Gould, Bruce Gomersall, Nick Griffith-Haynes, Dominic Hailstone, John Helps, Dan Kelly, Charlotte Laidet, Emma Ledsam, Joe Morrell, Anja Madhvani, Tom Morris, Joe Williams, Rachel Acham Seagroatt, Francis O'Donnell Smith, Ed Pickford, Sian Pulley, Nicole Robson, Ana Stefaniak, Matthew Toole, Natalie Walter, Manuel Weikert, Roger Wilson, Paul Wright, Peter Wyeth, Red Fox Folk Group, and the Amersham Fair Organ Museum.
This album is dedicated in loving memory of Sian Pulley
